Relocating to Paragonah
Located in Iron County, Paragonah was rich in water, timber, and iron and was first called Paragoonah. It was settled at the same time as nearby Parowan in the early 1850s. Local residents found Meadows next to Red Creek that provided ideal locations for farming. It was first known as Red Creek and later changed to Paragoonah and then Paragonah. The name has Southern Paiute origin and is said to be a reference to the red color of the water found in the area. The town was incorporated in 1916.
The town has two major entrances both off of Interstate 15. At Highway 274 and the Parowan airport to the south offers access along Highway 271 N. to Paragonah, which runs directly through town and then reconnect Interstate 15 just north of the village. The town is pretty compact and is primarily residential It's known for the local D 9 Custom Meats, producing amazing jerky, beef, pork, lamb, buffalo, and wild game for the area.
In the center of town right along Highway 271, which runs north and south is the post office, a church and automotive center. That's pretty much it. The town is laid out in a grid quadrant with about four properties per block. The larger town of Parowan just a couple of minutes South has more shops, restaurants, and markets but Cedar City is the largest city where you'll find most services and amenities such as a Walmart, Smith's Food and Drug and the Cedar City Regional Airport.

79% of residents own their own homes and the median home value is about $211,000. Because the majority of homes take up 1/4 of each block in the town, most of the lots are the same size however, there are a few outlying towns just outside the city limits with lots and acreage of up to $1 million. 40 acre lot started about $150,000 with 1/2 an acre at about $35,000-$40,000. There are currently multiple half-acre lots ideal for building your custom home. There are no townhouses or condominiums. Paragonah is primarily single-detached houses on about 1/3- 1/4 acre.
